Rule 1
The rules
As the moderators wrote them, shortened where they run long.
- No self-promotionReplies asking people to DM you so they can hire you are not allowed. This isn't a job fair.
- No commercial spamDiscussion of commercial products, in context, is fine. Repeated low-value pointers to the web page for a product you're shilling is not.
- Be respectful and politeCalm, polite, adult behavior is the norm here. Namecalling, abuse, racism, sexism, and the like will not be tolerated.
- This subreddit is for discussion, not hiring or job seeking. There are lots of places where you can find bookkeepers to hire, and look for jobs. This subreddit is not for that; it's for discussion. Posts that are simply looking for work or for employees/contractors will be…
- Don't post "How do I get started in bookkeeping?"Sadly, we get a huge number of posts of the form "Hi, I'm a [baker / butcher / computer programmer / long-distance runner], but I've heard that bookkeeping is an easy way to MAKE MONEY FAST while working from home. How…

How to show up here without getting banned
- Don't post about your product. Answer questions in the comments with real expertise instead. People who find your answers useful check your profile, so say what you do there.
- Be careful with links. The rules are specific: “If you solicit business for your company, or post/comment links to pages that are blatantly advertising a product or service, you will be banned.”
- Keep it in the thread. Don't move people to DMs to pitch them: “Replies asking people to DM you so they can hire you are not allowed.”
- Read the sidebar and pinned posts. Moderators often add rules there, and rules change. Check r/Bookkeeping's before your first post.
