The GummySearch alternative that doesn’t depend on Reddit’s API

GummySearch stopped taking new customers on 30 Nov 2025, and on 1 Dec 2026 it deletes every account and all its data. If you still have access, it ends by 30 Nov 2026 at the latest. Here’s what happened, what to save before then, what to look for in a replacement, and an honest list of the options, including ours.

What happened to GummySearch

On 6 Nov 2025, GummySearch announced it was closing. Its explanation: it couldn’t reach an agreement with Reddit on a commercial licence to access Reddit’s Data API. More than 135,000 founders, marketers and investors had used it.

The wind-down, from GummySearch’s announcement and help centre:

  • 30 Nov 2025. Last day to buy. New signups and renewals stopped.
  • 1 Dec 2025 to 30 Nov 2026. Paid plans keep full access until the end of their billing period; annual and lifetime plans run to 30 Nov 2026. Free accounts can only log in to view or download their data, or delete the account.
  • 1 Dec 2026. GummySearch shuts down completely and permanently deletes all user data.

It’s a pattern. When Reddit started charging for its API in 2023, popular third-party apps such as Apollo shut down. In November 2025 Reddit ended self-service API access, so new apps need Reddit’s approval first. Any tool built on Reddit’s API runs with Reddit’s permission, and that permission can change.

Before 30 Nov 2026: save what you built

The valuable part of a GummySearch account isn’t the software. It’s your research: which communities your customers talk in, and the words they use. Save it while you can.

  1. Download your data. Every account, free or paid, can log in and download its data until the shutdown. Do it now, not in the last week of November.
  2. Copy your audiences. Write down the subreddits in each audience. That list is your starting point in whatever tool you move to.
  3. Copy your tracked keywords. They become alert keywords or buyer phrases elsewhere.
  4. Save the posts that taught you something. Paste the best pain points and requests, in customers’ own words, into a document. That’s positioning copy you can’t easily recreate.
  5. Run the replacement alongside for a week. If you still have access, compare what each finds before GummySearch goes dark.

What GummySearch did well

GummySearch made Reddit research approachable for people who had never touched a Reddit search operator. You grouped subreddits into audiences, and it sorted what those communities were saying into themes such as pain points and requests for solutions. Paid plans added keyword tracking, AI pattern detection and content performance reports.

It was generous, too: a free plan, and paid plans at $29 (Starter), $59 (Pro) and $199 (Mega) a month. For customer research and idea validation, it was the tool a lot of founders started with.

Where people get stuck after GummySearch

  • No like-for-like replacement for research. Most tools sold as GummySearch alternatives find leads or send alerts. If you used GummySearch to study a market, expect a gap.
  • The same platform risk. A replacement built on Reddit’s API depends on Reddit’s approval, the thing GummySearch couldn’t get on commercial terms.
  • Keyword noise. Keyword alerts match words, not intent. A post that mentions your category is not the same as a person asking to buy it.
  • Research, then nothing. Finding a thread is step one. Replying well and fast, and knowing whether it became a customer, was never GummySearch’s job.

What to look for in a replacement

  • Where the data comes from. Ask how it reads Reddit, and what happens if that access changes. You’ve already been through one shutdown.
  • Freshness. How long after a post goes up does it reach you: a minute, an hour, a day, a week? On a “what should I use for…” thread, the first useful answers get most of the attention.
  • Screening. Does it match keywords or read the post? In one of our tests, on 707 real posts for a design studio, a cheaper AI model flagged 32 posts as buyers and most were wrong. Hubbub’s screening model picked the 2 genuine ones.
  • Who posts, from which account. Some tools auto-post, some from accounts they bought. Reddit’s rules ask you to participate authentically and not to mislead people. Your own account and your own click is the safe default.
  • What happens after you reply. Can you see which replies became conversations, and which conversations became customers?
  • The limits you’ll actually hit. Keywords, subreddits, reply credits, lead tokens, alerts a day. Price the plan you’d need, not the entry plan.

Your options, honestly

Choose by what you used GummySearch for. Prices are from each vendor’s website as of Sep 2026, and they change.

F5Bot: free keyword alerts

If you mostly used keyword tracking, start here. F5Bot emails you when your keywords show up on Reddit, Hacker News or Lobsters. The free tier covers 5 keywords and 20 alerts a day, delivered within up to 2 hours; Silver ($9.99 a month) gets alerts to you within 5 minutes. It won’t tell you who’s buying. Hubbub vs F5Bot

Syften: fast, broad monitoring

For teams that want alerts within about a minute, across Reddit plus Hacker News, GitHub, Stack Exchange, forums, Slack communities and more, delivered by email, Slack, RSS, API or webhook depending on plan. From $29.95 a month; AI filtering from $49.95. Hubbub vs Syften

Subreddit Signals: leads on the official API

A Reddit lead-generation tool with buyer-intent classification and a comment builder. It says it uses the official Reddit API, which matters if compliance is your first concern. $29 a month for 1 brand and 10 subreddits. It’s on GummySearch’s own list of alternatives. Hubbub vs Subreddit Signals

Redreach: leads plus DM outreach

Finds high-intent posts from your website and competitors, suggests replies, and runs DM campaigns from your account through a Chrome extension. From $19 a month. Also on GummySearch’s list. Hubbub vs Redreach

RedShip: monitoring with reply suggestions

Watches Reddit for your keywords and competitors, suggests replies, and says it will never post or message anyone for you. From $29 a month billed yearly, or $12 for a seven-day pass. Hubbub vs RedShip

Hubbub: buyers, replies and a pipeline

Ours, so weigh this accordingly. Hubbub reads every new post in the communities you choose, checked hourly, without using Reddit’s API. An AI model picks out the people asking for what you sell and drafts a reply in your voice, and you post it from your own account. Each lead then moves through a pipeline to won, with a deal value. Plans start at $19 a month. It doesn’t search all of Reddit by keyword; it works community by community, and it’s a newer product.

If you used GummySearch for market research rather than finding customers, none of these is a straight swap. GummySearch’s own alternatives page points research users to tools such as BuzzAbout, PainOnSocial and IdeaFast. We haven’t tested those.

When GummySearch is still the better choice

  • You have an annual or lifetime plan and you mainly do market research. Keep using it until 30 Nov 2026; nothing else does audience research in quite the same way. Download your data first.
  • You want to study a market across many communities at once. Hubbub is built to find buyers in the communities you pick, not to analyse a market.

How to switch in 10 minutes

  1. Paste your website. Hubbub reads it and drafts your profile: what you sell, who buys it, and the facts your replies can use. Drafts only say what’s written there.
  2. Check how buyers ask for it. Edit the phrases under “How buyers ask for it on Reddit”; they become your lead searches. Add competitors and your disclosure line.
  3. See who asked this past week. Hubbub shows real posts from the last seven days and suggests communities to watch. Add any subreddit you like.
  4. Pick a voice. Founder, expert or friendly helper.
  5. Reply to your first lead. Open the hottest lead in your pipeline, edit the draft, then click “Copy & open thread” and post it from your own account.

Bring two things from GummySearch: the subreddits in your audiences, which go in “Communities to watch”, and your tracked keywords, which go in “How buyers ask for it on Reddit”.
